10.1 | The 1999 DC election, the first of its kind for the HKSAR, has been successfully conducted. Such success could not have been achieved without the dedicated support and unfailing assistance so readily rendered to the EAC by the ICAC and the following government bureaux and departments, namely, the CAB, HAB, CAS, HAD, Hong Kong Police Force, HD, Immigration Department, ISD, Information and Technology Services Department, D of J, Lands Department, Official Languages Agency, Hongkong Post, Printing Department, the then Regional Services Department, the then Urban Services Department, Radio Television Hong Kong, Transport Department and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data. The EAC is in particular indebted to the officers of the REO, the District Officers, officers serving as the ROs, the polling and counting staff and legal practitioners serving on the NACs. Appreciation is due to candidates and members of the public who complied with the electoral rules, regulations and the Guidelines and who scrutinised the actions of the others. Thanks also go to the owners, tenants and those engaged in building management matters. The last but not the least, the enthusiasm of the electors who participated in the poll was what made the election a meaningful event in the history of Hong Kong. |
Section 2 - The Work Ahead
10.2 | The next task for the EAC is the 2000 LegCo Elections. The EAC is well prepared to take up the various functions it is required to perform under the EAC Ordinance. The EAC has in fact already completed the delineation of GCs, and the voter registration drive is well underway. The EAC is currently revising the Guidelines and the other relevant subsidiary legislation relating to the LegCo elections. It is the aim of the EAC that it will continue to use the best of its efforts to ensure that future elections will be held in an open, fair and honest manner. |
